Baauer – Harlem Shake

Yes this track was released like 8 months ago but since then the amazingly catchy track by Brooklyn producer Baauer has become one of the most memorable tracks in the trap scene and has become the track to a new viral trend. (Trap of course is ‘a sound that began steeped in the 4/4 dance tradition, slowly took on hip hop tendencies until the two became one.’) It started as a simple introductory piece to youtube user DizastaMusic’s sixth instalment of the video series Filthy Compilation, which is one person causally dances to the song with a motorbike helmet over their head, whilst others are busy doing whatever (e.g. on a computer or phone) minding their own business until it reaches the drop and then everyone starts twerkin’ and shaking uncontrollably for the rest of the track. Since then people have been making parodies of it and it has become a craze. The craze is weird yet it is so hilarious at the same time.

Here is the track by Baauer, which the craze is used for.

TheSunnyCoastSkate parodied the dance in a much exaggerated manner first, after the Filthy Compilation was done:

Now this one was posted on Youtube on February 6th 2013 and it already has over 4 million views:

Even a News Programme does it (watch the whole video):

Here’s Jimmy Fallon doing it on his show (Late Night with Jimmy Fallon):
